Seattle, now,  has the lowest number of police officers since 1958.

Recruitment bonuses and pay incentives are not working. 

 

 

Theft Increase

 

The report level of theft in the city is up 88 percent from 2022.

I suspect the real number is larger due to people not calling the police knowing the suspect will not be caught. And if caught, the DA will not pursue charges. 

 

 

Car Theft Decrease

 

In 2023, Auto thefts were down  26% decrease from 2022.

The most common car makes stolen were Kia or Hyundai.

 

 

Hiring

 

Per the FBI, the Pond is 48th out 50 major cities for officers per capita. The national average is 2.4 per 1000. The pond has 1.24. The city has the same amount of officers they had in 1989 when the city was 2/3's the size and with half the population. 

Sixteen months after the latest effort to hire more officers. The city still has the same amount of officers they did before the push.

With a shooting last night, the climbing homicide trend has dropped from 101 last year and 92 the year before, but is far greater the average of 29 homicides a year from 2016 to 2019. 

 

 

New Record

 

 

Yesterday, the pond has hit an all time records for traffic deaths. There have been 65. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Homicides

 

Today, we hit 73 Homicides. 

We won't beat last year's record of  101, or the previous record set in 2021 of 88, but compared to most of career, it is a bad year.

has hit last year's OD level. 

79% involved fentanyl.

The rate was 65% last year.

Prosecutions

 

Per their union, there were 170 reported assaults versus bus drivers in the Pond in 2022. 

“I am not aware of any of those going to a prosecution on an assault charge. As far as I know, the DA's office has either dropped the charges or settled on a plea deal with a misdemeanor of 'interfering with public transportation,'” said one of the union's VPs.
