I never thought I would make it, but I am now retired.

Congratulations, old friend. I am proud that I know you; you did so, so much good. Enjoy this extended vacation. I know you won’t be idle for long.

Long time lurker here, I check in a few times a year and have enjoyed your blog since I started following in SEP 2010, when I was a medic in the Army (tuning in during my visits to MWR). I'm a trauma nurse now, civilian side, in a metroplex far from you but the parallels are notable. Much has changed about your job since 2010, too. Thank you for having us along for your journey. It's been a privilege to ride along. Congratulations on your career of honorable public service. Take pride in a professional life well lived, and enjoy your retirement.
