Summer in the south means NVS (Vacation Bible School) We live in an agrarian, semi-rural town of about 6000. Semi-rural means a wide spread of income levels and some real poverty. Our church is small with an average attendance of 130 or so, post-Covid. With 70 adult volunteers, we are hosting 115 kids, grades K-6, this week from from 1700 to 2030 hours. They play games, do crafts, make music, learn who Jesus is, and (for some, most importantly) they get fed. For some of the kids, it might be the only meal they get the day. We watched on 6 year old by make and eat 3 adult-sided burritos, then head for the desert table.
My job this week is to man and secure the most active doorway, keeping out those who shouldn't be in, and keeping in any escorted children. And smiling, a whole lot of smiling.
What a beautiful blessing Ralph, thank you.
