Per an AC, the department has 800 applicants in the hiring pool. We have the capacity to hire 100 officers a year, but due to the department’s standards, we will only hire 6-8 percent of that 800. That’s between 48 and 64 officers.

People I keep encountering are always taking about how we need higher standards (educationally and otherwise) for our police and other government positions.
Your blog may be the only one I hear that points out how infeasible those higher standards are in actual execution.
