Per a sergeant, it takes 112 officers to make the new shift configuration work. West only has 107 and that number will only decrease.

 

 

 

Chillin'

 

Out of the barn, first call,

I 'm sent on a man down

off 1st and Trepidation.

On scene, I watch him crawl

on his belly like a caterpillar.

Creeping towards my feet,

he stops and looks up at me.

This morning, the DA's Office sent me an e-mail stating they were declining my graffiti case since the subject has mental health issues, it was his first offense, and I could not objectively prove that writing with Sharpie on the street sign "inconvenienced" the city.

Per the department, you cannot report crime or request police services via Twitter. 

 

 

The Numbers of Hiring

 

Per an AC, the department has 800 applicants in the hiring pool. We have the capacity to hire 100 officers a year, but due to the department’s standards, we will only hire 6-8 percent of that 800. That’s between 48 and 64 officers.
