I'm curious because nationwide seems to still be a lot of variation regarding long gun policy.

Shotgun in every Squad?

Rifles (AR?) only to a few?

Or does your dept allow officer to have either/both gauge & rifle?

When my brother was a deputy. He carried a handgun and three rifles. He had no restrictions on what he carried. He usually had a tactical rifle, a deer rifle, and shotgun.

We all have the option of carrying a shotgun. It can be load with slugs or buckshot, but not both. To carry an AR-14, you have to be selected and go to a special school. Military experience does not count. Only a handful of officers carry the AR on each shift.
