In the lower end of the Alphabet District,   someone has stenciled the word,  "snitching," to the stop signs.

 

 

 

Nine Years Ago

 

Nine years ago today, I called my wife. I had taken the last four hours of the shift off, so I could go home and go to bed early, so I would be awake fresh and early for her birthday.

 

I didn't make it. I had a late call.

 

I called her four hours after I was suppose to be home.

I was being interviewed by Homicide Detectives.

I had been in a long fight. A man tried to take my gun.

 

It is her measuring stick for bad birthdays.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Rinsing and Repeating En route to Detox

 

"How did I get here?"

 

You drank to much.

You fell down.

Concerned people called the police.

I arrived.

I saw you had too much to drink.

I put handcuffs on and put you in my car.

We are going to detox.

 

"But how did I get here?"

 

You drank to much.

The Inauguration

 

The department weathered the Inaugural Weekend. We worked scheduled to work 12 hour shifts with days off on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday cancelled. Start times were adjusted.

I was set to work eleven days straight.

The protest on Friday was soaked by rain and a stern response. The bridges and freeways were not taken over. Vandalism was minor. Arrests were few.

The Women's March had 100,000 protest without issue or incident.

Officers working C Shift, the old Afternoons, ended up working  ten hours on Friday and Saturday.

Sunday, I was allowed to have my regular day off.
