There is a moment:
A car prowler with an arm
full of stolen property.
He is defiant to my commands.
He advances, cocks his arm back.
I see the hammer in his hand.
Then, he is on the ground.
His arm is up in a bar,
his wrist is reversed.
My knee is in his back.
He's lost his breath.
The hammer is out of reach.
I call for cover,
but the fight is done.
Glad it ended well. Take care out there.

Did you use Taiho-Jiutsu or an allied art? I'm studying Aikido with a retired police officer and that sounds like one of our defense moves

@Rickt,
Everything starts with a wrestling base with Jiutsu and other mixed martial arts thrown in.

Armed with a hammer, and confronting you, dude is fortunate to just get dusty before the handcuffs. Well done RD and stay safe out there.

Armbar takedowns are the best! Glad you're safe! It's one of the most useful things you can learn, I feel, aside from how to safely fall.

@ SD,
I feel fortunate for not being hit.
@EV,
Amen. They are effective and cause the least amount of damage to the suspect.
Cheers.
