I led the man out of the bank in handcuffs.
His skin sagged over hollow bones:
a hundred pounds on a six foot frame.
He said to me, "I want you to know
I robbed that bank. It's a federal offense.
I nod, find the money in his pocket, ask,
You have cancer?
"That's what they say."
He so drained by the chemo,
he can't tell me what day it is.
Oof. Proper 'crisis' crime there. Are you guys able to signpost people to support in those situations?

Raf,
Bank robberies are all prosecuted by the federal government and not by the state. They take each element of the crime into consideration, is this a single occurrence, was a weapon displayed, was a weapon implied, did the subject try to leave the scene, to determine the appropriate sentencing.
Merry Christmas,

Never as simple as just solving the crimes and putting the bad guys away. Glad no one was injured in his scheme.
Merry belated Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family RD.

Do federal prisons give cancer treatment? I guess he felt it was his only option.
