On scene, deep in the South Village, the church fathers are waiting on the steps and sidewalk. Their eyes are large. They ask me to hurry.

 

I enter without cover.

 

Inside I hear, "Fuck Jesus! Fuck God! Fuck you all!"

 

It's Arnie Mac, a frequent flyer. He's sitting in the back.

 

I walk over. Everyone's watching.

 

He looks at me.

 

"What the FucK do you want?"

 

It's Christmas Eve. You are causing a scene. It's time to go.

 

"Who is goin' to make me."

 

I am.

 

"Fuck you. I ain't going anywhere."

 

I'm going to ask you one more time.

 

"You're gonna hafta fight me to me."

 

I lean forward, lower my voice.

 

It's Christmas Eve. We're in a church. There are children present. If you make me have to fight you in the House of God, it will be the worst beating of your life.

 

"Alright. I'll leave."
