Bane of the Day Sleeper

 

At eight AM, after five hours of sleep, my new neighbor

started grinding the stumps of his laurel hedge.

 

My wife responsed by shutting the windows, turning

on a box fan in the bedroom and bringing me

my shooting muffs, so I could try to sleep.

I have traffic, today, at 1330.

 

 

Changes

 

The precinct no longer assigns

cars by district.We no longer

have enough to dedicate

to a shift. Officers now take

what ever is available.

District officers can no longer

count on having a stocked, clean car 

 with a tank full of gas. 

 

 

Rejected

 

While I was on vacation, the DA's Office rejected on of my cases. Despite a protection order, the stalker had sent his victim a text stating, "I love you." Per the DDA, the message did not constitute annoying or harassing behavior.

 

 

Time to Make the Donuts

 

 

I'm back.

Three traffic trials are set for 1330.

The Shift starts at 1600.

 

 

 

 

Evening Greetings

 

 

Last night is garabage night.

I'm off. I'm home. I'm

hauling the can to the curb.

A canner is across the street

looking through recycling bins.

With a smile he says,

"Good evening officer!"

I wave and return to the task at hand.
