Your wife sounds like a wise woman. Isn't this kinda a life motto to have as a police wife? ;) It can be applied (in reference to a cops work schedule of course) to Christmas, birthdays, fall family events, weddings and life in general? Or is that just my cops schedule?

It is a part of the police life and I have missed my fair share
of family events, but I work for an agency with no forced OT and a structure that does not want to pay OT for late calls. I have enough seniority to have the weekends off, but that means I don't see my eldest during the unless I stop home during the shift. She does not get out of school until I am at work.

Sounds like a good take-home message for a class of new officers and their families.
