It’s early.
The shift’s just started.
I’m finishing a car prowl
in the parking lot
of the big box gym.
A woman in
work-out wear
walks over to me.
“Officer, are you busy?”
She’s all smiles.
I give her a glance.
No, ma’am.
What do you need?
“Can I use you.
Do have the time?”
I smile, fight the laugh.
Sure.
What do you need?
“I lost my cell phone
in my car and I can’t find it.
Could you call the number
while I look?
Not a problem.
She takes me to her Jetta.
I call her number.
Head down, waist up,
she searches under the seat
as her cell rings.
The phone cycles to voicemail.
I call her again.
She continues her search.
The phone cycles.
I do it again.
It sounds like
it’s in the glove box.
“I never use that.”
She looks anyways.
Her voicemail picks up.
You mind if I look?
“Go ahead.”
I call, hear the ring. It’s low,
on the passenger’s side.
I cock my head, trace the sound
from the gear shift to the glove box.
I spot a glimpse of light.
Got it.
“You found it?”
Yup.
I grab the phone.
“Where was it?
Under the glove box.
It slipped under
the top of the floor mat.
“Thank you so much.”
It’s not a problem.
It’s my easiest call of the week.
Now THAT was a pick up maneuver I never thought of!

I don't know how many cell minutes I've eaten up finding my wife's phone. At times I believe the little buggers have learned how to walk.
Just a quick note to let you know that I appreciate what you folks do. Telling us how you do it makes even more sense.
I found you on the list of the "Top 50 Police Blogs." It's easy to see how you got the award.
I'm a freelance writer and I write and post on the CSI Tech Blog.
We were recently named among the "Top 25 Forensic Blogs." So good for us!
All the best,
Don

Don,
I like the technical aspect of your blog. I am going to have to sit down and study your articles. They look very informative.
Thank you for commenting,

Did you call from a blocked number? :) or was that just the most clever ploy to get your number.

Nope. She never called and I am quite happy with that.
