Today, my 84 year old neighbor
called to report her car
stolen from a street downtown.
I drove to where she had thought
she’d parked it and searched,
block by block, until I found it:
twelve blocks south
and one to the east.
I called her daughter.
She retrieved the car.
I had a file where someone reported their car stolen, from this grass patch beside their old house. Where they had parked it, without the new tenant's permission. But they did have permission from the people living on the other side of the duplex. Neither one could remember the plate, or VIN, so I couldn't add it as stolen. It was never registered to them, so I couldn't look it up that way. They left the keys inside the car. That was my first stolen vehicle. Mein gott.

I've done that - I've never been 12 blocks off though. That's kind of a hike for an 84 year old!
