Lesson learned from a Fire call tonight:

Don’t warm cans of spray paint in the oven.

After forty years of service,

the officer with the most seniority

in the department is retiring.

He was hired on January 15th, 1970.

That’s longer than most officers

on the street have been alive.

 

 

Mourning Bands

 

The last Commander

of South died Saturday.

He had brain cancer.

He was fair

and flexible and forty.

 

All officers are authorized, 

and expected, to wear

mourning bands.

 

 

Wheeling and Dealing

 

 

Today, at roll call, the  sergeant asked, “Okay, who wants to take out a RAL tomorrow?”

 

There’s silence.

 

 Officers looked away, studied their notebooks, and all box offerings.

 

“Anybody? . . . . .  Anybody?

 

Z chimes in, “I’ll do it!”

 

He’s all grin.

 

Sergeant asked, “Really?”

 

Z replies, “Yep.”

 

“Great!”

 

“No Problem!”

 

“Ffhhuuuuuhhahh! You don’t work tomorrow!”

 

Z, still smiling said, That’s why it’ll be no problem.”

 

Sergeant scanned the room, “Anybody else. Anybody? It’s a potential hire. Come on. Anybody?”

 

I’do it.

 

The Sergeant looked surprised, “You will?”

 

For L2.

 

“L2 ? Done and Done!

See guys, if you want something, you gotta to learn to wheel and deal.”
