July recap:
In the beginning of July, we took a quick trip to see Big E's folks at their latest camp host position. Papa J and G'ma are drawn to a certain natural aesthetic in their quest for host positions. Let's just say that water is not generally part of this landscape.
See those dry, arid hills in the background?
This is how that landscape makes me feel.
My comfort level in a natural environment is directly proportional to the amount of water.
More water=more green=happier me..
And, I'm fairly sure G'ma and Papa J would say that ideally they would like more rock and less green.
Yes we have a certain difference in our natural aesthetic.
But I digress.
We drove through the gorge and crossed the river to them.
For the month of July they were volunteers at an observatory. So we were able to listen to the resident expert talk and look through the big telescope. The girls went swimming with their grandparents, and we all had a good time.
We saw this guy.
He's a furry ant.
Cool, huh?
And, in one of those lovely surprise meetings, we stumbled onto the studio of a weaver whose work I really admire.
It was a good trip, on the way home we stopped for a hike to see a waterfall.
This is Ponytail Falls, just above Horsetail Falls. The route our hike took was a nice one, not too steep, and fairly shady. If we'd had water with us, and if it hadn't been 98 degrees out, this would have been a marvelous hike.
There is something magical about walking behind a waterfall, and there were frogs!
And then, poof! We were back home.. for a day.
