Ever have the feeling of "Gee that medium is kinda cool, but I'm not sure I'm enough of an artist to make it work"?
I have this feeling about lots of mediums.
Oil paints, watercolors, painting in general all freak me out quite a bit.
It's that, "Maybe someday I'll take a class" syndrome.
You feel like you need an introduction, and perhaps permission to open that Pandora's Box.
And then, sometimes, there comes a moment where you say, "Nuts and pigtails, I'm just gonna do this thing!" and then you dive in.
Collage was like that for me.
Hesitate, hesitate, jump in with both feet.
And here I am again, playing with a new toy, feeling like a kid in a candy store, waiting to get caught and sent back home with my hand slapped.
I've been wanting to pick up an old camera for a while to try the TTV technique. (Through The Viewfinder is when you borrow the feel of a vintage camera's lens by shooting through it with a digital camera.) But I was having the hardest time giving myself permission to just do it.
Mother's Day weekend seemed a perfect time to indulge in an old Kodak with a bubble top viewfinder. We'll see how we get on.
