I mentioned a while back that at the end of March I would be participating in the National Science Teacher Association's National Conference. Well, I received a follow up email last week from the Harvard Smithsonian Astrophysics Department with more information about the sort of event I will be participating in.. I will be part of a panel discussion. The other participants? Well they include: Kathleen Fisher, Joel Mintzes, Joe Novak, Bassab Shakashir, and Jim Wandersee... oh, and me. I feel a bit like that Sesame Street song; "Some of these things belong together, some of these things are kind of the same..." Yep.. I think I might be that thing out of place, but they did invite me and I am thrilled to go. The conference is amazing! The other lectures are so interesting! It is the first time in 10 years that I am sorry I didn't follow up on becoming a science teacher. (I did apply, but it was a tight year applicant wise, and I didn't get into the education program. They encouraged me to reapply the following year, but life moved on.) Since I am a panelist, I will be registered for the event, and should be able to sit in on some lectures. Listening to the presentations on science education will be a bit like looking down the Path Not Taken. I can't wait.
